Objective Statement
To develop and implement comprehensive peer support resources for first responders, specifically tailored to address the unique needs of the LGBTQ+ community. This initiative aims to provide specialized training modules, create easily recognizable identifiers, and foster an inclusive and supportive environment within first responder teams.
Key Elements
1. LGBTQ+ Resources:
- Develop educational materials focused on LGBTQ+ issues relevant to first responders.
- Compile a list of mental health and support resources specifically for LGBTQ+ first responders.
- Establish a resource database accessible to all first responders.
2. Training Modules:
- Create training programs on LGBTQ+ cultural competency for first responders.
- Develop peer support training that includes understanding and addressing the mental health needs of LGBTQ+ colleagues.
- Offer continuous education and workshops on inclusivity and support strategies.
3. Identifiers:
- Design and distribute LGBTQ+ friendly identifiers such as badges, pins, or stickers that signify support and allyship.
- Implement visual indicators in workspaces to denote safe and supportive environments for LGBTQ+ personnel.
- Promote the use of these identifiers to foster visibility and solidarity within teams.

Implementation Plan
1. Assessment: Conduct a needs assessment to identify the specific challenges faced by LGBTQ+ first responders.
2. Development: Collaborate with LGBTQ+ advocacy groups and mental health professionals to develop training content and resources.

3. Training: Roll out training modules across all first responder teams, ensuring active participation.
- Ensure Peer Support/CIT training scenarios include LGBTQ+ related topics including intimate relationships, family dynamics, etc.
4. Distribution: Ensure all team members have access to LGBTQ+ friendly identifiers and understand their significance.
- Add LGBTQ+ signifiers such as a rainbow flag button, LGBTQ+ Ally, and pronouns to Peer Support member profiles/bios.
5. Evaluation: Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of the resources and training, making adjustments based on feedback and evolving needs.
By implementing these initiatives, the first responder peer support team will be better equipped to support LGBTQ+ colleagues, promoting mental health, well-being, and a culture of inclusivity.
