Lici Merritt joined the Coral Springs – Parkland Fire Department on February 3, 2003, as a Fire Inspector. She was promoted to Lieutenant on January 19, 2019, and on January 14, 2023, she was promoted to Captain. She is a nationally certified Fire Investigator, Fire Inspector, and Fire Plans Examiner. She is also a State of Florida certified EMT, Fire Fighter, Fire Officer 2, Fire Inspector 2, Fire Instructor and Fire and Life Safety Educator. She also obtained her AS Degree in Fire Science and graduated with honors, while working here.
Additionally, Lici has served as a member of the City of Coral Springs Safety Committee, Health Plan Focus Group, Employee Relations Committee, the Fire Department’s Strategic Planning Committee, was on the board for the City of Coral Springs Fire Department Benevolent, a union representative for the division and was a contributing member of the Assistance to Firefighter Grants. For more than 18 years, she was an integral part of the county’s Juvenile Firesetter Prevention and Intervention Program and assisted in building the program to what it is, today. Currently, she is a board member of the Broward County Multi Agency Pride coalition and serves as the department’s liaison. She is a responding member of the county’s CISM and peer support teams and was deployed to Surfside for the building collapse, the west coast after Hurricane Ian, multiple times to Monroe County and throughout Broward County for various incidents. She is also a member of our department’s Honor Guard.
Throughout Lici’s career, she has earned (1) Meritorious Duty Commendation, (4) Administrative Commendations, two (2) Team Citations, and three (3) Unit Citations. She was also chosen as the Fire and Life Safety Educator of the Year in 2008 and The Florida Fire Chief’s Association Fire Inspector of the Year in 2021.
